The bottle opener is an essential tool for restaurant sommeliers, and it derives its name from its ability to remove the lead seal from the bottle. Its compact and portable design has made it a favorite among wine enthusiasts.

Here are some guidelines for using the bottle opener effectively:

1.Start by removing the foil from the top of the bottle, using a small knife or the foil cutter on your wine opener, if it has one. You want to expose the cork without damaging it.

2. Position the opener at a 45-degree angle towards the center of the cork, then rotate it 90 degrees to a vertical position.

3. Apply gentle rotational pressure, using your index finger and thumb as leverage,  Make sure the screw is straight and goes all the way down into the cork, but not through it.

4.Place the first hinge of the waiter’s knife against the bottle’s mouth. With your left hand, hold the bottle firmly while wrapping the lever end of the waiter’s knife around it. Apply upward force with your right hand to partially pull the cork out
5.Lock the second hinge against the lip of the bottle, maintain a firm grip on the bottle with your left hand. With your right hand, gently shake and pull the cork out using the waiter’s knife. Avoid pulling the cork directly by holding the handle of the waiter’s knife, as this may damage the spiral part.

By following these steps, you can effectively and safely use the bottle opener to open your favorite bottles of wine without any hassle or risk of damaging the spiral. Enjoy your wine!
